Shock of the Century? Lincoln Red Imps 1-0 Celtic

Last night, Brendan Rodgers lead his Celtic side out for his first competitive game in charge – a Champions League qualifier against the Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar.

The Red Imps, champions of Gibraltar 14 years running, were obviously huge underdogs – Gibraltar has a population half the size as the capacity of Celtic’s stadium! The team are part-timers, semi-pros, and take a look at this…

The team had police officers, taxi drivers and customs officers working in public services. However, a goal from police officer Lee Casciaro was enough to give Lincoln Red Imps a famous victory against a Celtic team featuring eight full internationals!

To make matters even worse, Brendan Rodgers said there was no shame in their defeat! He must be kidding himself, they lost to a team whose players had been driving taxis a few hours earlier.

Although there is a second leg of the tie at Celtic Park, in which Celtic are likely to overwhelm the Imps, this is surely one of the worst results in Celtic’s history and may well be the shock of the century…
